The American Association of Feline Practitioners has released new Vaccination Guidelines, endorsed by the International Society of Feline Medicine.

The schedule is more conservative in the types and frequency of vaccinations. For indoor cats see Table 2.

New injection sites are recommended due to vaccine related carcinomas.  You may want to take this with you to discuss with your vet (particularly if they are not a cat-only vet) during your cat's next appointment.

This sort of thing scares me so much. My cats once got the three year rabies vaccine by accident, because the vet did not ask me which one I wanted them to get and I did not speak up and ask about it soon enough. It wasn't even clear until I got their records when I was moving which one they had received, as one piece of paperwork said one year and another said three year. It does look like they got the three year one, and I will be devastated if something happens to my cats because of it. It's been about two years now, and (knock on wood) they seem fine.

I'll be sure to show this information to the next vet I take my cats to.

Unfortunately, up until this year, my cats were getting the 3 year because I didn't know and my old vet never gave me a choice. New vet only does one year and is much more cautious about vaccines in general.
