My two year old tortie Katzen came home from her last vet visit with the sneezes. Her baby brother Marco Polo, age 3 months, had them too - but he got over them in a few days. It's now about a week and Katzen is definitely getting more sneezey. Normally I would take her right to the vet, but the problem is our car has died so I have to wait till the weekend to hitch a ride with a friend.

She's still eating / drinking / playing as normal. Her eyes are clear with no discharge coming from them, but she's very sneezy and keeps washing her face as if she's trying to get her nose to stop that.

Is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable until we can get to the vet to have her checked out this weekend?

Pretty girl!

Put her in the bathroom with you while you take a really long, steamy shower.

I had a super easy going cat with chronic sinus problems that I was able to put saline drops in his nose (not medicated!), but that's pretty uncommon for a cat to tolerate that, and not worth the stress.

Make sure she's getting enough water (clean the water fountain, give her extra wet food, etc).

As long as she doesn't get worse, she should be fine for a few days (the sinus problem cat would often go off his food b/c he couldn't smell it; if that happens you need to get your cat to the vet right away).

I was also going to suggest the shower trick. :)

I'm glad you guys suggested it- I would've never thought about it.

This is our very first kitty cold - Katzen's been pretty healthy since we got her as a kitten. So I'm a very worried cat mom!

Thank you! I will try the shower thing tonight, and make sure her fountain is good and clean I put an extra water bowl out for the cats in addition to the fountain because it's been so hot- and I've seen her drinking from both so I know she is getting water.

Shower report! It seems to have helped her a lot. She hasn't been sneezing- she's just under the bed glaring at me for having shut the door while i was doing that disgusting thing humans do involving ALL THAT WATER.

Thank you so much for suggesting it.

Yay :-)

I know showering is always good for my nose when I have a cold.

In my big home remodel project we're putting in a steam shower. I figure both me and the kitties can use it. :-)

I've been watching my cats for colds since I took in a foster who had a cold. The foster was obviously under the weather but never lost her appetite. Once she started sneezing yellow goobers I was given some antibiotics for her to avoid any worsening secondary infection, but if your cat is only sneezing clear snot and eating/drinking/playing then try not to worry too much! (Easier said than done, I totally understand!)

All her snot has been clear--- and I know this because unfortunately she has sneezed quite a few times ON me. =0

And she spent a good portion of her day visiting the food bowl / drinking / wrestling with her baby brother. So I think she is feeling mostly okay -- I'm just really worried because this is our first cold.
